Coffee & Christ: Your Safe Space for Faith & Conversation
A Note from Pastor Corinne:
Hello, I’m Corinne. This group exists for one simple, radical reason: to be a living reminder that you are a beloved child of God, welcome exactly as you are. I know the pain of being told you don’t belong. My calling is to help others overcome that feeling. This is your safe harbor to explore, question, and find community. It’s a place to be real, not perfect. Wherever you are on your path—curious, doubting, healing, or seeking—you have a place here.
We gather to listen without judgment, to hold one another through doubts and grief, and to celebrate the small and big ways God’s love shows up in our lives. Expect honest conversation, gentle encouragement, and practical support—resources, prayer if you want it, and friendships that help you grow in faith and compassion. You are invited to bring your whole story: the parts you’re proud of and the parts you’re still sorting through. Together we’ll practice kindness, extend grace, and remind one another that belonging is not earned by perfection but given freely by God.
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” — Romans 8:38-39 (NIV).
What Is It? A Deeper Look
Coffee & Christ is a weekly, informal gathering intentionally designed to be non-intimidating and deeply hospitable. We combine simple rhythms—conversation, scripture, and prayer—to create a steady space where spiritual formation happens through relationship rather than program. The emphasis is on real stories, mutual accompaniment, and practices that help faith land in everyday life.
When & Where
-
When: Sundays, 10:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m. We maintain a consistent weekly rhythm to help people establish connections and spiritual habits.
-
Where: The B&G SPOT, 438 Market Street, Sunbury, PA 17801. (Parking behind the building by Burger King.)
-
What to expect on arrival: a warm greeting, name tags if you’d like, light snacks and coffee, and a comfortable seating arrangement that encourages conversation.
-
If you’re running late: come anyway. We welcome late arrivals and maintain a relaxed pace, allowing people to join at any point.
Purpose
-
Spiritual formation through relationship: faith grows best in community; we cultivate habits—listening, confession, prayer, service—that shape us over time.
-
Honest exploration: we want to ask questions aloud, name doubts, and test interpretations of scripture in a supportive setting.
-
Mutual care and accountability: members encourage one another in spiritual practices and life choices, with sensitivity and confidentiality.
-
Practical service: faith that is inwardly nourishing should also be outwardly expressed; we plan and participate in local outreach together.
Logistics & Participation
-
Cost: Free to attend. Optional offerings help cover the cost of refreshments; no one is turned away due to a lack of funds.
-
RSVP: Not required. Drop-ins welcome. For groups, events, or special sessions, an RSVP may be requested.
-
Commitment: No membership required—attend as often as you like. Regular attendance helps build deeper relationships, but is not mandated.
-
Snacks/food: Light refreshments provided. Dietary concerns: feel free to bring what you need or mention preferences when contacting us.
Format & Flow
-
Typical meeting (60 minutes):
-
Welcome & brief check-in (5–10 min): one-sentence updates so we know who’s present and how folks are doing.
-
Short scripture or thematic prompt (5–10 min): a 2–3 minute reflection to orient the group.
-
Facilitated conversation (30–40 min): whole-group discussion or breakouts; questions are open-ended to invite personal reflection.
-
Wrap-up & optional prayer or reflection (5–10 min): summary of insights, any action steps, and a consent-based time for prayer.
-
-
Variations: occasional guest speakers, service-planning sessions, or topical series that run several weeks (e.g., grief, parenting, scripture basics).
-
Participation norms: you may listen, speak, or pass—there is no obligation to share.
Who We Welcome
-
Open invitation: We welcome people from every background—those in established faith, seekers, doubters, people exploring identity, and those wounded by the church.
-
Explicitly affirming posture: We strive to be a spiritual home for the LGBTQ+ community and others who are often marginalized by traditional church settings.
-
No prerequisites: You do not need a particular theological stance, history, or level of commitment to join.
How Topics Are Chosen & Program Development
-
Organic selection: Most themes arise spontaneously from participant needs—people raise topics during meetings or message ahead.
-
Suggested series: Periodically, we invite people to propose a short, multi-week series (3–6 weeks) on a focused theme, which the group decides by consensus.
-
Resource sharing: We collect recommended books, podcasts, and articles and make a curated list available to participants.
Examples of Prompts and Session Topics
-
Single-meeting prompts: “Where have you seen God at work this week?”, “What does Sabbath look like for you?”, “How do you practice forgiveness?”
-
Multi-week series ideas: “Grief and Hope,” “Exploring Prayer Practices,” “Faith & Work: Integrating Belief and Vocation.”
My Role
-
As host and facilitator, I (Pastor Corinne) prepare a short opening thought or scripture and create the structure that holds the conversation, but I do not monopolize it. My responsibilities include:
-
Curating short, accessible prompts or scripture passages.
-
Keeping the conversation safe and on track (timekeeping, redirecting gently).
-
Inviting quieter voices and ensuring everyone who wants to share can.
-
Offering pastoral care afterward when requested.
-
-
I am not the primary teacher; instead, I help the group listen to each other and to what God might be saying through the group’s shared experience.

-
Boundaries: Pastoral staff respect professional boundaries; personal contact outside meetings is available by appointment or mutual consent.

Coffee and Christ: Purpose and Guidelines
Our gatherings aim to deepen our relationship with Christ while fostering a supportive community. We seek to uplift one another through shared faith experiences, scripture study, and prayer. At Coffee and Christ, we believe that fellowship is vital to spiritual growth, and we strive to create a welcoming atmosphere where individuals can explore their faith freely.
We aim to encourage open dialogue about our personal journeys and challenges, providing a space for vulnerability and authenticity. By sharing our testimonies and insights, we deepen our understanding of God’s word and its relevance to our lives today. Together, we will navigate questions of faith, celebrate victories, and seek guidance through prayer and collective wisdom.
We are committed to serving our community and demonstrating Christ’s love through compassionate action. By engaging in outreach, charitable activities, and supporting one another in times of need, we embody the teachings of Jesus and make a positive impact in the world around us.
Ultimately, our purpose is to build a nurturing and faith-driven community where each member feels valued and equipped to grow in their relationship with God, share His love, and contribute to the greater good of our church and the community.
Confidentiality:
What is shared during our gatherings remains confidential. This ensures a safe space for open sharing and trust among participants.
Respect:
Treat all attendees with love and respect, honoring each person’s journey, beliefs, and contributions. Everyone’s experiences are valuable and deserve consideration.
Listening Ear:
Encourage active listening. When someone shares, allow them to express their thoughts fully without interruption or cross-talk. This creates a respectful and nurturing environment.
Focus on Faith:
Discussions should center around personal experiences with faith, insights from scripture, and reflections on how God is actively working in each of our lives.
Scripture Sharing:
Participants are encouraged to share relevant Bible verses that inspire them and to explain how these passages have impacted their spiritual journey. This enriches our discussions and draws us closer to God's word.
Prayer and Fellowship:
Include moments of group prayer, where attendees can pray for each other’s needs openly or silently. This cultivates a strong sense of community and spiritual support.
Time Limits for Sharing:
To ensure everyone has an opportunity to participate, please limit individual sharing to 3-5 minutes. This enables a diverse range of voices and perspectives to be heard.
No Distractions:
We ask that all attendees refrain from using phones and electronic devices during discussions to maintain focus on our fellowship and the teachings of Christ.
Inclusivity:
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate, regardless of their faith background or journey. We embrace diverse perspectives and aim to support all in their spiritual growth.
Community Engagement:
Let’s discuss opportunities for outreach and community service as a group, embodying the love of Christ through our actions and support for those in need.
Your Invitation:
We aim to be a sustainable, compassionate community where faith is practiced in ordinary life. Come as you are; bring your questions, wounds, and wonder. Together we’ll listen, pray, serve, and grow.
